Dr. Gongguan Liu received his Ph.D. and post-doctoral trainings from the University of Maryland, U.S., where he worked on host defence mechanisms against zoonotic pathogens. The Liu lab apply high-throughput screening methods, intravital imaging, and animal models to unveil host immunological regulatory networks, and potential vaccine and drug targets. Ongoing research in the lab aims to uncover the dynamic cellular and molecular mechanisms contributing to lethal infection and pathology using experimental models of echinococcosis and influenza. A major focus in the lab is to understand how signalling modules are rewired to regulate T cell development, homeostasis and tolerance, from where they aim at evaluating the preventive and therapeutic effects by targeting on the proposed molecules.
The Liu lab welcome trainees of all levels with research interests/backgrounds, including but not limited to basic/vaccine immunology, parasitology, virology, pharmacology, and bioinformatics.
